The Client
The Town of Leesburg, VA is known for its charming downtown area and vibrant community. With numerous local businesses, and events, the need for efficient parking is essential. The Town Hall parking garage serves as a key location for commuters and visitors to downtown, offering convenient access to commuter bus routes as well as the historic district and local attractions. However, as the garage had been in operation for over 30 years, finding a modern solution to meet the increasing demands of visitors became crucial.
The Challenge
Despite its central location, the Town Hall parking garage faced significant challenges. With an aging infrastructure and increasing demand, commuters and visitors often struggled to find available parking spaces, leading to frustration and delays. The existing
parking system lacked real-time guidance and did not provide any accurate or up-to-date information to drivers. As a result, drivers frequently drove aimlessly around the garage, wasting valuable time and reducing the overall visitor experience. The Town needed a modern, efficient solution to improve parking availability and streamline the experience for both commuters headed to work and people headed to downtown venues.
The Solution
The Town of Leesburg turned to Parking Logix to address these parking challenges. The cutting-edge OpenSpace
parking guidance system was implemented in the garage. The system keeps track of available parking using advanced cloud-based technology and remote counting sensors embedded in rubber speed humps. These sensors provide accurate, real-time space availability data that integrates seamlessly into the 34-year-old garage.
OpenSpace includes digital signs placed throughout the garage. The signs update every few seconds to show the real time counts of available spaces on each level. These signs are strategically positioned at key points, including the entrances from Market and Loudoun Streets. Drivers can see detailed availability data so that they’re informed of parking availability before they look for parking.
The system’s ability to easily retrofit into the existing infrastructure made it an ideal solution for the Town’s parking garage. The Town is considering adding an additional feature to link OpenSpace to the Town’s website. This would allow drivers to check parking availability from their computers or phones before they even arrive.
